Impact is the drum sampler built into Fender Studio Pro, the app you may still know as PreSonus Studio One. Kit Maker builds native .soundx presets for it, and each one is self-contained: the samples live inside the file, so a kit still plays if you move it, back it up, or hand it to someone else. Nothing to relink.
The same kits load in current Studio Pro and in older Studio One versions. If your version calls the sampler Impact XT, that’s the same instrument under the name it used before Fender dropped the XT.
Where the kits go: Kit Maker saves them in your Impact presets folder, where Impact’s browser already looks. The two apps keep that folder in slightly different places:
- Fender Studio Pro uses
Studio Pro/Presets/Fender - Studio One uses
Studio One [version]/Presets/PreSonus
If you have both apps installed, Kit Maker asks which one you want your kits saved in. You can change the location at any time in Preferences > Folder Paths, where the path row is called Impact. If you pick a folder by hand, choose the folder named PreSonus or Fender inside your app’s Presets folder. Kit Maker warns you if the folder doesn’t look right.
Loading a kit:
In Kit Maker, choose Impact and click Make Kits.
In Studio One or Fender Studio Pro, add an Impact instrument to a track.
Open Impact’s preset browser and pick your kit. The pads fill in, already named and in order.
If your new kits don’t show up yet: Studio One doesn’t always notice files that were added while it was running. Right-click in the file browser and choose Refresh, and the kits appear in both the DAW’s file browser and Impact’s own kit browser. Kit Maker reminds you about this after a run, so you shouldn’t need to go looking for it.
Banks: Impact supports up to 8 banks (128 pads) in one preset, so a large pack can become a single kit instead of several. Set this with the Banks dropdown on the main screen (see Banks).
Pad colors: Impact supports colored pads, so your category colors and color themes carry into the kit.
