Kit Maker makes kits for FPC, the drum pad sampler that comes with every edition of FL Studio. Each kit is an FPC preset. Pads are colored by category, and every pad gets a matching icon, so a kick pad shows a kick and a snare pad shows a snare (the icon comes from the sample name when Use Icons from Filenames is on).
Where the kits go: Kit Maker saves them in FPC’s presets folder inside your Image-Line folder (FL Studio/Presets/Plugin presets/Generators/FPC), with the samples saved alongside them. The first time you turn on FL Studio, Kit Maker looks up your Image-Line folder from FL Studio’s own settings:
- If your folder is in the usual place (
Documents/Image-Line), it’s set for you. - If you’ve moved it, Kit Maker shows you the location it found and uses that.
- If it can’t find one, Kit Maker uses
Documents/Image-Lineand tells you. If your Image-Line folder is somewhere else, set it before making kits.
You can change the location at any time in Preferences > Folder Paths, where the row is called FL Studio (FPC) Image-Line Folder. It should match the Image-Line data folder set in FL Studio.
FPC color theme and layout: the first time you turn on FL Studio, Kit Maker offers a color theme and pad layout that match the classic FPC kit style. You can change either later. The FL Studio theme is in the Color Theme dropdown (see Color Themes), and the FL Studio layout is in the Layout dropdown.
Loading a kit:
In Kit Maker, choose FL Studio and click Make Kits.
In FL Studio, open the FPC kit browser. The kits are labeled and organized by pack.
Choose a kit and it loads with its pad colors and icons.
Banks: FPC has two banks of 16 pads, and Kit Maker can fill both in one preset. Set this with the Banks dropdown on the main screen (see Banks).
Novation FLkey: the FLkey keyboards have RGB drum pads. Load an FPC kit and the FLkey’s pads light up in the same colors as the kit.
