Sample packs make two kinds of presets

Preset Maker sorts each pack automatically. Multi-samples become correctly mapped Instrument Presets. One-shot sounds are grouped together by category. Your presets are organized by pack, making it easy to load up and play the sounds you already own.

Individual one-shots (non multi-sample files) are spread across the keyboard in each preset. These are not pitched per note, they are each meant to play as their original sounds.

Maschine Expansions are scanned automatically and import with a click. Below is a breakdown of what each one makes.

Two kinds of preset come out.

Multi-Sample Preset
One sound sampled at several pitches, playable across the keyboard.
One-Shot Preset
Different single sounds laid one per key, so a folder of synth hits, plucks or percussion becomes playable.

Important: not all Maschine instruments convert.

Only the instruments an Expansion ships in Samples/Instruments become multi-sample presets. One-shots are unaffected, and every Expansion still makes One-Shot Presets. The breakdown below shows exactly which is which.

How the presets are created

Preset Maker knows how most sample packs and multi-samples name their samples. Below are some examples of how it reads the filenames.

The octave has to come straight after the note. Files that use MIDI note numbers instead of note names work too.

Several velocities per note

If a note was sampled at more than one velocity, keep the name identical and put the velocity on the end. MPC and Ableton get real velocity layers out of it.

Number them by layer (V1, V2) or by MIDI velocity (V65, V95). Either works, as long as it’s consistent across the instrument.

One-shots: it’s the folder name that matters

One-shots don’t need note names. The app reads the folder they sit in and makes one preset per folder, so a pack that keeps its stabs, pads and plucks in separate folders is already sorted.

MPC hardware & software

Compatible with MPC OS 2 and the newer MPC OS 3, across modern MPC hardware and the desktop software, including the MPC Key 37 and MPC Key 61. Your keygroups show up in the browser just like any other MPC instrument.

Sample libraries

Works with detailed multisample libraries like Samples From Mars, and with your Maschine Expansions. Drag the folder in and each instrument is rebuilt as a preset.

Good to know

Ableton requires the Sampler device. Ableton presets are saved in the User Library : Sampler : Preset Maker Presets.

A Maschine Expansion makes multi-sample presets only where it ships note-named sample sets, which most but not all Expansions do. Sample Packs must categorize one-shots into different folders to create One-Shot Presets, which most packs do. Runs on macOS and Windows. Not affiliated with Native Instruments, Ableton, Akai or Synthstrom.
