Common Answers and Solutions for Kit Maker

How to Make Kits

1Can I use any Sample Pack? What files/folders will work?
Check out this article here!
2How do I use my own sample categories for Sample Packs?
The labels are only suggestions. You can put any samples you want in the folders, and they will match up with their associated pads. For instance, you could put horn sample sounds in the Percussion folder, and all the pads labeled Percussion would be assigned those horn sounds. This is to allow a wide variety of kit styles.
Note: Do not change the names of the sample category folders or they will not be recognized by Kit Maker.
3How do I create a customized layout using different sample types, or a different amount of samples than the default?
We have an article on how to create specific customized layouts here.

You should be able to make just about any kit layout you can think of!
4I have a question or issue regarding Native Instruments or Maschine kits.

The Kits I created arent working as expected

1My kits in Sample Pack mode are being created wrong or have issues
Check out this article here! It explains how to process drum sample packs. This will clarify many mistakes users make and allow you to make kits properly
2My Maschine / Native Instruments kits came out different than expected.
Check out this article here!
3All the kits are blank, or missing samples
If your kits are being created, but all the pads are blank or missing samples, this is typically because of a permissions issue with your computer. This means that your computer doesn't have full access to either the folder/drive that your sample pack is on or the folder/drive that the kits are being created on.

If your sample pack is on a different drive than your main drive, try copying the sample pack to your desktop. Then try processing that drive in Kit Maker.

If you still have issues, please message us with as many details as possible so we can help.
4Deluge kits are having errors
It may be partially due to newer deluge firmware changes because this was not an issue in the past.

The latest beta version fixes these issues . The update also has kits organized by folders, which the deluge firmware now supports!
5My kits that use .aif files are not working in MPC
This is an issue we are aware of and working on. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Ableton Specific Issues/Questions

1I use a custom location for my Ableton User Library, how do I set this up?
Make sure to point Kit Maker to your User Library in the Preferences before processing libraries.
Visit our help article on how to use a custom Ableton User Library in Kit Maker.
2Ableton says the presets are damaged or broken.
This happens when using Live 9. Kit Maker is currently only for Live 10 & 11.

Additionally, if your samples contain special characters such as "&" and "$" in the filenames, these can break the preset. If your samples contain them, please delete these special characters from your files before processing in Kit Maker.
3Ableton presets are not showing up
If you have a custom User Library location you will need to set the location in the Kit Maker preferences. See more info on the Ableton User Library. Find out your Ableton User Library location inside of the Ableton preferences in the Library tab under "Location of User Library." Then in the Kit Maker preferences, click the “Custom” button under "Ableton User Library" and choose that same directory you saw in your Ableton preferences. The folder you select will be called "User Library." Save the Kit Maker preferences and try processing the library again.

Note: Microsoft OneDrive seems to have permissions issues. You may need to move your User Library outside of OneDrive in order for Kit Maker to work
4Ableton says "Media files are missing"
You may have set up a custom User Library location in Ableton. Kit Maker uses Ableton's default User Library location by default. You can link your custom User Library location in the Kit Maker preferences. Once you have saved your preferences, re process the libraries.

Our help article on how to use a custom Ableton User Library has additional info.

If you have trouble, please follow the "Troubleshooting Ableton Files" steps at the bottom of that page. These steps will help you solve the problem, or help provide me the info I need to investigate the issue further :)

Thanks!
5Can I use multiple banks in Ableton?

Help Using Kit Maker

1How do I import MPC kits into the MPC (or Beats) desktop software?
Drag the Kit Maker Kits converted pack folder that you want to import (ie; "Drums That Knock") and drag it into the "Samples" panel at the bottom of the MPC software.
This may show up in "Main Mode" or "Program Edit" mode.

Note: The Preview files do not seem to work in MPC Desktop software, even when they exist and are in the correct folder. We aren't sure of why this is different from the MPC hardware where they play correctly.
2Can I use multiple banks on MPC?
Yes! In our latest beta version, we added this feature. Download it here.
3Screen gets stuck on "Making Kits..."
If the app hangs up on the “Making Kits” screen, it is typically because of one of the issues below.

1. There is a mistake in custom keywords you have added. It is possible to accidentally add an extra comma character “,” to the end of your list of keywords (or have two commas in a row). This can trip up the software. Solution: First, check for an extra comma and delete it. If that doesn't solve it, in the preferences, Reset the Keywords and Save the preferences when exiting. If that doesn’t work, try using the button that resets All of the preferences.

2. It could also be that the sample packs are being imported from an external drive that is not connecting well with our app. On rare occasions, a user will have external hard drive that will cause the “Making Kits” screen to come up. Solution: Before importing, copy the sample pack to your computer’s main hard drive. Then import the sample pack. If this works, then the issue was a connection with that specific hard drive. We are not sure why this problem happens in rare instances, but we apologize for the issue.

You can also try out Troubleshooting steps at the bottom of this page. If you still can’t find a solution, reach out and let us know all the steps you have tried.
4I am on macOS and the app says it cannot open.
This is likely an issue caused by Gumroad's "Download All Files" feature. Try downloading the Mac dmg file by itself and then installing (replace the app in the Applications folder).

Other Questions

1Where do I download or update Kit Maker?
The latest installation files are available to Kit Maker customers on the platform you purchased on (Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy). Your receipt should also contain link to download the latest files.

Alternatively, visit this page for info and the download link for the latest version.

3My DAW is on my computer, will this double the size of my sample files?
No. It will duplicate many of the files, but the app does not duplicate the loop files, which are typically the largest files.

For instance a Maschine Expansion that is processed and created will be a fraction of the size of the original Maschine Expansion folder.
4How do I transfer kits to my iOS app?
iTunes lets you transfer files directly to an iOS app on your device. See here for more info. You can also transfer them using the Files app or a cloud service such as Dropbox. Check the instructions of the specific iOS app you are using. iMPC Pro 2 has a slightly different way of importing files, which is explained on the iMPC 2 Pro page.
5Where does Kit Maker install on Windows?
The install location is C:/Users/(UserName)/AppData/Local/kit-maker

If the AppData folder is hidden, click the "View" menu at the top of the File Explorer and check the box to show "Hidden" items.
