Did you get the “Media Files Missing” warning when opening kits in Ableton 12.1 or later?
See if you match this combination:
- You are a Windows User
- You use a custom User Library location on your PC
- You use Ableton 12.1 or above
There is a specific bug in some older Kit Maker kit files that only shows up under these circumstances. Don’t worry, the files can be fixed!
- Kit maker should be Updated to version 2.4 or later. Then make sure your Kit Maker preferences (in the Ableton section) use the “12.1 Simpler” option for “Ableton Kit Versoin”. This is a newer format of .adg kits that works better with Ableton Live version 12.1 and later (but does not work with older versions of Ableton). Kits made with this format will work with the new Ableton Live versions as expected.
- You can also fix your old .adg files! In the Kit Maker Menu under “Extras”, choose the option “Update Old Ableton Kits (.adg)”. This process updates the old .adg kit format into the newer format and fix the Missing Media errors. More info on this is below
If you have the Media Files Missing error but do not match the criteria above, check the Ableton User Library Help page for info
Update Old Ableton Kits (.adg)
The process allows you to update older .adg files to a newer Ableton kit format for Ableton 12.1 and later (make sure you are on at least version 12.1 of Ableton Live before doing this process).
The process asks you to confirm the location the sample files. It will start with the expected location (according to your User Library location in the Kit Maker preferences), but it may be good to double check that the samples are truly where it is looking.
A backup can be saved of your original .adg kit files. This is optional, but recommended, just in case any mistakes are made.
Once the process is done, your original .adg kit files should work as expected!
If you have issues with this process, please let me know with as much detail as possible via the Help form.
