# Formats

Choose any combination of output formats. Preset Maker writes each one to the right place for that app.

## Paths

Everything except Ableton and FL Studio is made in the **Preset Maker Presets** folder on your desktop, one subfolder per format and one folder per pack inside that. Ableton presets install into your Ableton User Library, and FL Studio (DirectWave) presets into your Image-Line folder.

```
On your desktop                 In your Ableton User Library
Preset Maker Presets/           User Library/
├─ MPC Presets/                 └─ Sampler/
├─ Beatmaker Presets/              └─ Preset Maker Presets/
├─ Deluge Presets/
└─ SFZ Presets/
   └─ Late Night Keys/
```

Set each location under **Preferences → Folder Paths**. Click a path to change it, or click the folder icon beside it to open that folder. Each row has a reset to default.

## The Formats

- **MPC** (MPC Live, X, One, Key, Akai Force, plus MPC Desktop and MPC Beats): keygroup `.xpm` programs. One-shot presets start at C0 to match the pads, and up to four velocity layers per key are used.
- **Ableton Live**: Sampler `.adv` presets for Live 10, 11 or 12, installed in your User Library. They need Ableton's Sampler device, which isn't included in every edition of Live (it comes with Live Suite). See the options below.
- **Beatmaker**: `.bmk2` presets for Beatmaker 3 on iOS\*. Velocity-layered samples become one preset per velocity. To get them onto your device, see [Transferring to iOS](/docs/pm-transferring-to-ios/).
- **Deluge**: for the Synthstrom Deluge. Copy the contents of the **SYNTHS** folder to the Deluge's SYNTHS folder, and the **PRESET MAKER** folder into `SAMPLES` on the card. A `Deluge_Help.txt` with these instructions is saved beside them.
- **FL Studio**: DirectWave `.dwp` presets, saved in your Image-Line folder under `DirectWave/Preset Maker Presets` so they show up in DirectWave's browser. Turn on **FL Studio (DirectWave)** under Output Formats. The first time, Preset Maker finds your Image-Line folder from FL Studio's settings and tells you which folder it will use. If you set a custom data folder in FL Studio, make sure it matches the **Image-Line Folder** row under **Preferences → Folder Paths**. Velocity layers carry over.
- **SFZ**: plain-text `.sfz` instruments for any SFZ player. Loop points and the "play fully" option apply here first.

*\* Beatmaker 2 can load these presets too.*

## Ableton Live Options

The first time you make Ableton presets, Preset Maker shows you the User Library it found and asks you to confirm it.

- **Portable presets.** By default each preset's samples are written to a `_Samples` folder next to its `.adv` file, so a pack stays self-contained and can be moved or shared without breaking. Switch to saving samples into the User Library under **Preferences → Ableton Live**.
- **Preview files.** Ableton can't audition presets from the User Library browser, so a copy of each instrument's C3 sample is saved beside its preset. Click the preview to hear the sound. Keep them beside each `.adv`, or together in a `[Previews]` folder.
- **Push 3 Standalone.** Copy your preset packs into the Push User Library and the instruments are ready on Push 3 in standalone mode.
