# Sample Pack Mode

Sample Pack Mode lets you import one-shot drum sample packs and converts them into ready-to-use kits automatically.

Important: Kit Maker is for short one-shot sounds. Loops and long sounds are filtered out by default (this can be changed in the Filter settings).

Kit Maker figures out what each sample is (a kick, a snare, a hat, and so on) and fills the pads of new kits with them. It works this out from the way your pack is already organized: either **category subfolders** (like "Kicks" and "Snares") or **keywords in the sample filenames**. Most sample packs use *some* kind of organization, so it's rare that samples can't be identified.

If your pack is instead grouped into individual **kit folders** (each folder holding the sounds for one kit), Kit Maker can process those too. That's covered in [Process Kit Folders](/docs/km3-processing-methods/#process-kit-folders).

**Don't miss the Summary Page.** After you make kits, Kit Maker shows a **Summary Page** with each pack's category counts, a preview of each kit's pad layout, the kit count and what got filtered. See [Summary Page](/docs/km3-summary-page/).
