# OP-1 and OP-1 Field

Export kits for the Teenage Engineering OP-1 and OP-1 Field.

Each kit is a single sliced AIFF file rather than a folder of samples, so the whole kit shares one section of audio length. Kit Maker 3 will ask which model of OP-1 you use the first time you click the format. This determines the number of audio channels and audio length. See [OP-1](/docs/km3-format-options/#op-1) for the model setting and how samples are fitted to the time available.

Kits are built with 16 samples. The OP-1 has more keys than that, so the remaining keys repeat the kit starting again from the first pad.

## Getting the kits onto your OP-1

1. Connect the OP-1 to your computer over USB.
2. **OP-1 Field:** press **shift + COM**, then **T4**. On a Mac, open the OP-1 Field in Teenage Engineering's [Field Kit](https://teenage.engineering/guides/fieldkit) app. On Windows it shows up in File Explorer, with no app needed. **Original OP-1:** press **shift + COM**, then **T3** (disk mode). It shows up on your computer as a drive.
3. Open the OP-1's **drum** folder and drag in the folders found inside your OP-1 Kits folder. Drag those pack folders, not the OP-1 Kits folder that holds them.
4. Eject the OP-1. Your kits show up in its drum browser.

The OP-1's drum folder can store one level of folders inside; any additionally nested subfolders are skipped by the OP-1 and won't show up on its browser.

## Preset limits

The OP-1 Field can hold a limit of 500 presets, including drum kits and synth sounds. Importing over the limit will begin skipping presets and show a vague warning.

The original OP-1 can hold 42 total drum kits. Importing over the limit may result in skipped kits. Kit Maker shortens kit names to 10 characters for the original OP-1.

One Maschine Expansion can make more kits than the original OP-1 holds, and a big batch can go past the OP-1 Field's limit too. When that happens, the pack report says so. Pick the kits you want most before you copy them over.

## Kit and folder names on the original OP-1

Teenage Engineering recommends keeping preset names to 10 characters on the original OP-1, so Kit Maker shortens kit and pack folder names for that model. **All The Way Live Kit** becomes **AllTheWayL**, and the kit number stays at the end when there is one. The OP-1 Field scrolls long names on its screen, so your names are kept as they are for that model.
