# MPC Sample

Kits for the Akai MPC Sample are built as `.xpj` project files, one project per kit, with all of a pack's kits together in one folder. Each `.xpj` has a matching `_[ProjectData]` folder, and the two have to stay side by side.

To get them onto the device, put a microSD card in the MPC Sample's **left** slot, hold **Shift** and tap **Pad 16**, then choose **SD Card Access** to mount the card on your computer. Copy the kit folder to the card. The kits can go anywhere on the card, including the root.

**After copying projects to the card, power the MPC Sample off and back on. New projects don't appear until the device restarts.** This works the same way in reverse: projects you save on the device won't show up on your computer until after a restart either.

To load a kit, use **Load Project**, press the middle button to switch to **External**, and browse to the kit. Then press the **Load Kit** button. Don't press down on the knob, because that opens the file as a full project, which replaces your whole session.

A kit loads as one kit of up to 8 banks, and loading it replaces every bank at once.

Preferences has a second file type, `.mpcsample`, if `.xpj` ever gives you trouble. See [MPC Sample](/docs/km3-format-options/#mpc-sample).
