# MPC Expansions

**This section is about *importing* MPC Expansions**, the expansion packs made *for* MPC, so Kit Maker can convert their kits into other formats. It is **not** about *making your own* MPC Expansion. For that, see my video: [How to Make MPC Expansions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQRfCR1K_MI).

Sample Pack mode can convert **MPC Expansions** (the expansion packs made for MPC, which contain `.xpm` **drum program** files) into kits for the other formats Kit Maker supports. Import an MPC Expansion like any other pack, and Kit Maker rebuilds its drum kits for your chosen destinations.

## What Converts

- **Drum programs only.** Kit Maker converts the `.xpm` drum programs inside an Expansion. An **instrument-only** Expansion, one that contains only instruments and no `.xpm` drum programs, has nothing for Kit Maker to convert.
- **Every bank becomes its own kit.** Each bank in an Expansion is made into its own kit.
- **Pad order.** Kits keep the pad layout of the originals. Choose a different layout than Classic and Kit Maker uses that instead.

## Finding your Expansions

The **MPC Exp.** tab in the [Sample Pack Importer](/docs/km3-importing-packs/#sample-pack-importer) finds your MPC Expansions for you. It checks the standard Akai content locations and merges the results if you keep Expansions in more than one place.
