# Koala Sampler

Kits for [Koala Sampler](/koala-drum-kits/) are saved as `.koala` files that load as kit presets, with the samples packed inside each file. One file holds up to 4 banks (A, B, C and D). Kit Maker puts the pads in Koala's own order for you, so any layout works.

The same `.koala` file works in Koala on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows.

## Loading a kit into Koala

1. Copy the folder of `.koala` files to your phone or tablet, or to cloud storage you can open from it. For an iPhone or iPad, see [Transferring to iOS Devices](/docs/km3-transferring-to-ios-devices/).
2. In Koala, open the Samples browser by tapping the small **SAMPLES** text at the bottom right (in Sample or Sequence mode).
3. Tap **Add Location** and pick the folder with your kits. You only do this once, and the folder stays in the Samples browser from then on.
4. Tap a kit and choose **Load Bank**.

**Load Bank replaces the pads in the bank you have open.** Switch to an empty bank first if you want to keep what's on the current one.

## If a kit won't load

- Load kits from the **SAMPLES** browser at the bottom right, not the **Import Audio** menu at the top right.
- If the kit shows a cloud icon instead of a waveform, it isn't stored on your device yet. See [Transferring to iOS Devices](/docs/km3-transferring-to-ios-devices/) for how to download it.
- Koala needs free space to save a kit's samples. If a kit fails to load, free up some storage and try again.
